We are situated in the old town (Casco Viejo) of Fuenmayor, about 12 km west of Logroño, the provincial capital of La Rioja. The village has a population of about 3500 and encompasses a large area that spans from the river Ebro to the north, to the main motorway and dual carriageway to the south. The river Ebro also straddles the boundaries with the Basque Country, our neighbouring province to the north.
Fuenmayor is renowned for its fine selection of restaurants, eateries, bars and pubs. The main plaza, Felix Azpilicueta, is well maintained, with numerous lime trees and the central church, Iglesia Parroquial de Santa María, constructed in 1560 by Juan Martínez de Mutio.
The village has its own primary and secondary schools, medical centre and numerous retail outlets and supermarket. On Friday mornings, the village holds a market, where local producers sell their goods in the main square.
The main economic activity is winemaking, with some of the best Riojan wine cellars (bodegas) originating from or still having a presence in the village. Late September sees a flurry of activity for the start of the grape harvest (vendimia).
